Planning was granted for two units on the site of an old grain barn.
Construction start: Q2 2022
Planning granted for a single barn conversion.
Granted: Aug 2020.
The design is a replacement of the former Village Hall with a new dwelling. The replacement building is designed to be a high quality post-vernacular cottage, to represent a traditional rural character, at the same time having a desirable modern and flexible internal layout and home to live in. Built over the existing footprint of the Village Hall, it is positioned in line with the adjacent neighbouring buildings and faces the main road (B1063), embedding it into its immediate context and landscape. The character shares that of a traditional cottage, it is a one-and-a-half storeys, having a steep pitched room which ties into the neighbouring ridge heights, with feature dormer windows where light and views add to the living spaces.
Currently under construction.
Completion due: April 2022
The 5 units are a mix of single and two-storey buildings with ancillary single storey garages, clad in weatherboard with pantile roofs. They provide dwellings of a contemporary design, but echoing the form and style of traditional barns. In keeping with the site originally being a farm yard.
Completed: Q4 2021
Planning has been approved to demolish the existing redundant warehouse building on the site, and redevelop a small residential scheme.
Completed: Q4 2019
Design:
- Five new dwellings on a brownfield site.
- Proposed dwellings have been designed to reflect the rural feel of Stradishall.
- Traditional narrow form and steep pitched roofs in the Suffolk vernacular style.
- Outbuilding style garages integral to the design layout.
- Dwellings orientated to create a courtyard feel to the development.
- Traditional materials, including render, pantiles and weatherboard cladding, as well as open soffits to the eaves of the roof.
- The rear of the dwellings will reduce in scale to 1 storey, with a barn-like feel; this will help the dwellings to blend in with a wider landscape and adjoining farmland to the rear.
- Dwellings orientated to maximise views to the wider countryside.
- All dwellings are set within large plots and have south or south-west facing gardens.
The restoration and refurbishment of the Old School house has been a sympathetic and high quality change of use to holiday accommodation. Where possible we have retained as much of the original character of the building. Outside the main part of the school looks exactly as it was except for the bedroom which is a brand-new extension. This has been sensitively designed to complement the original building. Inside we have restored and reclaimed as much as we could. The ceiling in the entrance hall and living room is made from the original paneling which has been cleaned and made good. The building also used to have painted tongue and groove paneling on the walls which is now located in the bathroom and entrance hall. The original wooden floor has been made into the two sliding doors and into the shelves that are in the bathroom and entrance hall. The boxes you see in the kitchen and bedroom have been made to replicate the fruit boxes that used to store the fruit.
Completed: Q3 2018
